Google has released software called O3D which aims to bring accelerated 3D graphics to the web browser.

O3D is a plug-in available for all major browsers on Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms.

The technology works by allowing developers access to a computers 3D hardware simply by using JavaScript.

The plug-in is available from Google today, and the website includes live demo’s and a video showing off the technology.

Adobe has announced that its Flash platform is coming to Internet-linked television sets, set-top boxes and Blu-ray players.

The move would give viewers the ability to watch YouTube, Hulu and Netflix right from their living rooms.

“Consumers are looking to access their favourite Flash technology-based videos, applications, services and other rich Web content across screens” said David Wadhwani, general manager and vice president of the Platform Business Unit.

At this stage, there is still no release date, or idea of which manufacturers will be jumping on board.

Trend Micro – a major security firm – have released a web browser called Smart Surfing suitable for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

The browser benefits by blocking browsers from accessing malicious sites, using Trend Micro’s Web Reputation technology.

A list of features include:

  • Secured by the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network
  • Blocks access to Web pages with malicious content
  • Helps protect against phishing and pharming attacks
  • Provides color-coded search results to easily identify harmful Web pages
  • Easy-to-modify protection strength level and notifications
  • Supports browsing multiple Web pages at the same time

The browser can be downloaded for free from the iTunes store.

The 13th of March 2009 marks the World Wide Web’s 20th birthday, after Tim Berners-Lee created the very first version of HTML.

Berners-Lee’s idea envisioned researches being able click on links in documents to other relevant articles.

Surely the WWW is one of the greatest inventions of the last 20 years. You can read more about the WWW and Tim Berners-Lee.

Results for Februrary are in and Google Chrome, Firefox and Opera are all winners for the month.

Februrary statistics from Net Applications shows that Internet Explorers share continued its decline, dropping 0.04% to 67.51%.

Firefox was a big winner, with a 0.2% increase to 21.73%, while Google Chrome increased its share by 0.03% to 1.15%.

Opera also had a good month increasing its share by 0.01% to 0.71%.

Apple’s Safari did not far so well, with the first decrease in months to 8.00%. That’s a 0.29% drop from last month.

The next month will be interesting, with the inimant release of Internet Explorer 8 expected this month and Apple’s Safari 4 beta being released just days ago.

OmniWeb, a Mac only browser is now free. The web browser, with a market share of less than 1% still has a very strong and loyal user base.

The browser includes features such as a built-in ad-blocker and can automatically save browsing sessions.

Mozilla has just released Firefox for Windows Mobile. Under the name of Fennec, which is the very first public release of the browser.

You can install Fennec on an HTC Touch Pro by navigating to the installation cab file in your exsisting browser. This will then start the installation of the browser.

Early reports vary, with some users unable to open any web pages using Fennec. Mozilla is sure to fix bugs and add new features at the browser progresses.

Xfire has today released an update to their gaiming instant messanger. Inside the update is the abbility to browse the web in tabbed windows while you are still in game.

The browser uses an imbedded version of Internet Explorer, and is not using a new brower engine.

In game support is not available on all games, but the list of games is increasing.

Users of Xfire will have the new version pushed out to them while new users can downoad Xfire from the Xfire website.

Strangely absent from this cartoon is Google’s Chrome, which has a greater share than Opera.
